I just got fresh batch of lovely vinyl. When it comes to record shopping I like to gamble. I’m rarely seen at the decks of the local record store for 45 minutes trying to decide what piece of plastic to bring home with me. If the random fifteen seconds (wherever I lay my needle is home) I listen to sound good I usually part with cash with a smile on my gullible lips. When it comes to online shopping I’m even worse. If it sounded good on my laptop’s speakers, at work, in a noisy office, with a head about to a-splode of caffeine it’s good enough. Needless to say I’ve bought a couple of crappy 12″s. This time it seems I’ve struck mainly gold…

Tek Box – Express / Move Your Hips
Glasgow Underground is one of those “I so badly wanna work with these guys I’ll cut off my left foot” kind of labels. I’m not saying that Carli and that other guy are now cripples, rather that this piece of funk deserves to be in that kind of company. There are edits of both tracks and for once these are really edits – not remixes. Discogs lists this as Italo but that can only be attributed to collective short memory. In my ears this is funk the way it always was and always will be. A couple of 80’s sounds won’t make Amin Peck out of it. If you haven’t already – stop by their myspace, then buy the funcker.
Thomas Bangalter – Trax On Da Rox vol. 2
I honestly didn’t believe this one was still available brand spanking new but I guess anything Daft doesn’t really stop selling. Good for me. “Extra Dry” is extra awesome. And the other tracks are rough and rocking as well.
Since I didn’t have this little gem on vinyl I had to get it. “U&Me’s Unpacked Deck-Track Dub” is my track of choice.

What you are about to read is what I like to describe as a weak moment.
It took me a fair bit of Wikipedia to penetrate the tangled but ever so funky nest that is Van She. Now that I’ve done my homework I know that:
- Van She is a band from Sydney.
- Vanshe Tech “are the electirc love children of the shoegaze epic Van She. Vanshe’s Tech, are, two girls who work closely with 2 of the band members of the band in order to create powerful and elegant, wacked out remixes from other peoples music for your dancing pleasure”. [sic] etc.
- Their debut EP was released on Modular Recordings in … 2005! And here I was about to write some kind of review on it believing that it was no older than a year. Shame on me.
Thoroughly ashamed that my attention obviously slipped grossly on Van She I’ll just briefly sum things up by saying that Sex City is a hella song and that the EP itself will stay in my playlist for a long time. And recommend the excellent whitelabel (or is it on Bang Gang 12″? Don’t know for certain…) Utah Saints vs. Van She Tech – Something Good. As anyone who knows me is sure to know I don’t DJ much but whenever I do I’m dead sure to drop this track. Absolutely brilliant rework of Utah Saints original.

It could be that I’ve had an excellent amount of sleep the last 24 hours but I’m in an unusually energetic mood for 22.22 on a Sunday night. And nostalgic. Whatever it is, this old school baby has been on pretty much repeat the whole day. I can’t fight it any more so I’m making it song of the day. That doesn’t really mean anything except I can create a new category on the blog. Wicked.
I haven’t actually tried it to play it backwards. Anyone care to give it a try and see what comes out? I’ll be hiding under my covers meanwhile.
Midfield General – Devil in Sports Casual
And if the original beat isn’t biggish enough for you, you can always go biggerisher.
“Your music, rock and roll. Is a satanic, satanic… music!”

Can someone please help me out with Propaganda? I picked up p: Machinery (this cover, another printing) by chance a while back. I think the single is great. In fact, it even sounds cool and moody at 33 rpm! With the exciting sense of “Wow! I stumbled across a forgotten band that I’m about to fall in love with!”-wonder I went and bought 1234 in mint condition. Either I don’t “get it” or it’s made by an entirely different band. Should I try out any of their other records or should I just call it quits before they let me down even more?

Update: Maybe I should have consulted the trusty old AMG before parting with cash. “1234 is the work of a group that was past its prime” is probably a pretty good summary.
