“Flabbergasted” is right near the top of the list of cool words I’ve never gotten to use. This is it’s time to shine.
I am flabbergasted.

Knowing Some Waves (or Gustav, as he is sometimes known) I’m not at all surprised at all surprised by the title of today’s SoTD. “Patience, Patience” is a good summary of the general pace of his home town of Kalix. It could well be the city’s motto.
It’s surprising that Some Waves hasn’t been discovered/signed yet. Probably it’s due to his abysmal self promotion. 1569 plays? The music deserves that amount per day.
Enough said. Make with the mp3-link. (Hosted by Musiclood.)
What you are about to read is what I like to describe as a weak moment.
It took me a fair bit of Wikipedia to penetrate the tangled but ever so funky nest that is Van She. Now that I’ve done my homework I know that:
Thoroughly ashamed that my attention obviously slipped grossly on Van She I’ll just briefly sum things up by saying that Sex City is a hella song and that the EP itself will stay in my playlist for a long time. And recommend the excellent whitelabel (or is it on Bang Gang 12″? Don’t know for certain…) Utah Saints vs. Van She Tech – Something Good. As anyone who knows me is sure to know I don’t DJ much but whenever I do I’m dead sure to drop this track. Absolutely brilliant rework of Utah Saints original.
They’re back! I’ve missed them.
This night me, Maria, Peter & Jenny attended the weekly pub quiz at the Red Lion. We were quite decent and racked up a score of 16 out of 30. I also took the time to list Keith Richards as the dead member of Rolling Stones. Mostly for the hell of it.
We did however win the bonus competition (best team name based on a lie your parents told you when you were young) which earned us an unnecessary round of shots. Feel free to join “Every time you touch yourself an angel dies” for an hour of trivia bloodbath next Monday.
It was Peter’s idea. Honestly.
I’ve made a new friend. This old guitar was given to my wife’s grandfather decades ago by a man who is now a fairly well known and respected Swedish musician. Since my wife’s grandfather doesn’t play the guitar he thought it would be better off with us. And it’s a beauty.
Even the capotasto is a tiny work of art. (Click picture of choice for some more Flickrisms.)
Admittedly it’s not the best guitar in the world per se, not very Martin-esque. And it’s been beat up pretty good. Still it has a certain something – a bluesy quality I really like. And it sounds great in my fairly reverberant living room. I’m trying my best to fix it into good shape. The first thing I’m going to do is get some new strings for it, truth be told I don’t think it was ever meant to be a steel string guitar. And then I’m gonna stick a tube mic on it and see if it sings. Mp3s to follow, most likely.
I’ll toss you another one of those since I’m totally swamped in work right now. No time to churn out longer paragraphs of general uninterest, in other words.
This is another one of those “I wish I was a DJ”-tracks.
Nelly Furtado – Say It Right (Einar Ehn Remix)
It’s in Einar’s myspace player, or better yet grab the mp3 directly from his site.
It could be that I’ve had an excellent amount of sleep the last 24 hours but I’m in an unusually energetic mood for 22.22 on a Sunday night. And nostalgic. Whatever it is, this old school baby has been on pretty much repeat the whole day. I can’t fight it any more so I’m making it song of the day. That doesn’t really mean anything except I can create a new category on the blog. Wicked.
I haven’t actually tried it to play it backwards. Anyone care to give it a try and see what comes out? I’ll be hiding under my covers meanwhile.
Midfield General – Devil in Sports Casual
And if the original beat isn’t biggish enough for you, you can always go biggerisher.
“Your music, rock and roll. Is a satanic, satanic… music!”
Or, I guess, this weekend in pictures. (Feel free to go somewhere else, this is the stuff placeholders are made of.)
I helped David move to his new flat on Thursday. By Saturday night he had the essentials sorted. The turntables and somewhere to sleep, that is.
Fast forward three and half hours (let’s not mention Radio London ever again, shall we?) to Kraft; the minimal, minimal techno club at Storan (run by Jor-El and Dimitrios_K). I love this stuff. At home. On my (fairly decent) stereo. At a dance floor I can’t stand it – it sends me right to sleep. Especially when the sound system is really sub par (honestly, what happened to everything below 110 hz?) and the crowd looks like it’s on the verge of going postal any minute. I guess I’m just too much of a sucker for the funk to truly get into it. I did love the minimal, minimal, minimal lights though. Basically six strobing heads pointed at a chandelier. Nice.
“Paid” in the sense that I expect to be on the guestlist.
